Had A Good Week
Last weekend, I worked on Love Runes, which follows Chaos Magic. I got about thirty pages down. Not a bad start. I had a lot of fun writing a dungeon scene with Hector playing bad cop - while in a uniform. There's also a good scene with Deal, the Goddess of Negotiation, in a Hollywood restaurant with Sam. Deal is an interesting character to write, because I'm never sure if I like her or not. Maybe she's the agent I wish I had. As I drive to work, I see bus benches with ads for real estate agents who work the Pasadena/San Marino/Palisades/Malibu area. They sell "estates", not houses. There's this one woman who's very Junior League, right down to the strand of pearls. She was my inspiration for the Goddess of Eternal Youth. The Goddess had a brief cameo in Chaos Magic because I knew she was my antagonist this time around. She's fun to write simply because she's so slimy, but in a WASPy way, like the debutante from hell. She got right in there, being catty and merciless in her first scene with Sam. Gotta love a villain who's so delicious to write. Now that I've had my fun though, things have got to start happening. Poor Sam. Poor Hector. They have no idea what's coming. I'm going to put them through some rough times. |
